NGO Network Meeting – Minutes

Venue: PWS office, Madurai.
Meeting organised by: People Welfare Society (PWS) – Madurai
Facilitated by: Mr. Francis Xavier, Project Director – PWS – Madurai.

NGOs participated:
1. People Welfare Society, PWS – Madurai
2. Subbiah Charitable Trust, SCT – Trichy
3. Community habitation and initiative for Livelihood development, CHILD – Madurai.
4. People Empowerment Team India, PET India foundation - Madurai
5. Santhosam Trust, Trichy
6. Pasunthalir Trust, Trinelveli
7. People Smile Trust, Madurai
8. PAATHAI, Tuticorin
9. LASA Foundation, Chennai
10. SCAN Foundation, Chennai.

From the above 10 organisations, representatives from 8 organisation were participated and the last two organisation’s representatives were not attended the meeting due to unavoidable situation.

Meetings started with a brainstorming session, which follows the introduction of the participants. Formal introduction is initiated by Mr. Xavier, PD, PWS-Madurai. The participants from the following NGO representatives are also introduced in detail about themselves and their organisation.

Purpose of the meeting was informed by the facilitator:
To form a network among NGOs in Tamilnadu to implement project on “Climate Change”.
This was discussed and initiated by PWS with the consultation of Mr .Siddharthan, consultant who specialised in this area.

The following points are discussed during the meeting:
1. The first step before submitting the project is to form a network for which the NGOs are organised.
2. Those NGOs has to submit their Deed Copy, accounts statement copy, Annual report, Area of operation, Auditor’s statement, 12A and 80G copies to PWS within a week time.
3. The consultant fee of Rs.15000/- for proposal development will be paid from the registration fee paid by the NGOs of the network.
4. The registration fee is fixed as Rs.1500/- per NGO.
5. The registration fee should be paid on or before 23rd June, 2010.
6. The next meeting will be organised with the consultant within a week time. Date, Time and venue will be communicated after consulting with the consultant by the Mr. Xavier.
7. The convener of this network is Mr. Francis Xavier and the Co-convener is Mr. Siddharthan, Consultant of this project.
8. The name of the network is discussed and finalised. The following names are suggested. TREE (Training and Research on Environment Education Network) and GREEN (Global Warming Research and Environment Education Network and it was finalised as INITIATIVE for GLOBAL WARMING RESEARCH AND ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION NETWORK (i-GREEN)
9. Area of operation of NGOs are tentatively finalised with the consultation among the i-GREEN members. The project has to implement in the following 10 districts initially.
a. Madurai – PWS
b. Sivagangai – People smile
c. Ramanathapuram – PWS
d. Theni – Joe Britto Educational Trust
e. Dindigul – CHILD
f. Trichy – SCT or Santhosam - it was finalised later
g. Virudhunagar – PET india foundation
h. Tuticorin – PAATHAI
i. Tirunelveli – PASUNTHALIR
j. Kanyakumari – Voice animal.
10. The registration fee Rs.1500/- to be paid in the following Account on or before the prescribed date. S.FRANCIS XAVIER, SBI – Villangudi Bn., A/c No.0020043361718.
11. E mail Id should be decided and to be created by Mr. Xavier, for the network. It was finalised as
igreentn@gmail.com.
12. Email Id should be created for the all the network member NGOs.
13. After discussed with the consultant the next meeting will be on 27th of June, 2010.

There is a knowledge assessment session was facilitated by the facilitator on Climate Change.
The following effects are happened in climate change, such as
a. Green house effect
b. Global warming
c. Climatic change
d. Disaster occurrence increases
e. Sea level increases
f. Health problems
These effects are due to Air pollution, Gas emission, Deforestation, Infra structure development, IT companies. The alternatives for this effect are listed by the participants are as follows.
1. Tree plantation
2. Solid Waste Management
3. Solar system
4. Labour intensive techniques
5. Wind Mill
6. Mangrove cultivation
7. Bio – diversity
8. Campaign
9. Organic farming
10. Promote Alternative medicine
Those alternatives can be satisfied by the following activities:
1. Awareness programs
2. Tree plantation
3. Model Village to be developed
4. Global Warming clubs in different forms
5. Education program
6. Waste Management (Solid , Water etc.,)
7. Organic farming
8. Advocacy
9. Capacity building
10. Mangrove cultivation
11. Alternative power zones
12. Leveraging activities
13. Water shed Management

These are all the points are discussed during the knowledge assessment session. The program is winded up at 3.00 PM.
